I am going on a Med. cruise shortly with Princess Cruises and I have a question about my onboard bill?

Posted by admin on September 30th, 2010 and filed under princess cruise | 6 Comments »

I have just found out that princess cruises charge 3% to convert my onboard bill to dollars. As I expect to spend afew bob at the bars and casino this could add a substantial amount to my bill .Is there a way round this conversion charge?
This bill is presented at the end of the cruise whereupon a charge of 3% is added in order for the cruise company to convert the bill from pounds to dollars. As I intend to spend a few bob at the bars and organised trips 3% could amount to a fair amount.Has anyone else encountered this situation and found a way of avoiding paying an extra 3% on top of this bill?

yeah, pay with credit card and let the bank do the conversion for you, my bank doesn’t charge me for that, some do charge but it’s less than 3p/c

Dawn/Sun Princess Cruise (Depart From Sydney) are there any younger people also on board?

Posted by admin on September 30th, 2010 and filed under princess cruise | 4 Comments »

Well, myself and my mate both age 25 are planning to visit south pacific island in Dawn princess cruise for 12nights. Just wondering that, it will be too hard to find same age people on the cruise?
P.S I am planning to depart on 28th Dec (New Years Cruise)

I have been on Princess 9 times including one from Sydney which was 29 days. Anyways, the real long ones(over 14 days) you will see some younger people, but not tons. All the other cruises I have been on, there has always been lots of 20 somentings on board. It is mostly because people over 60 or so, do not work and therefore have more time on their hands. But most working people can get 2 weeks off for vacation. With the internet, you can even do some work right from the ship. Regardless, you will have a great time visiting the pacific islands.

who has used Island Marketing Ltd. for their shore excursions on West Caribbean Cruises?

We are taking a cruise later on this year, the crusie line don’t offer the shore excursion I want . I want to go white river tubing and go to Dunns River Falls . The lady that’s in charge of the group we’re going with says not to use other company for shore excursions use only the crusie ship excursions but Island Marketing is cheaper and goes where I want to go. They also take smaller groups then crusie line does. The lady has sailed with this line sevral times in the past and says she gets special treatment because of all the people she gets to sail each trip. I’m thinking the only reason she wants us to use the crusie line excrusions is so she gets more discounts or better treatment.

You can find local companies that do the same excursions for a lot cheaper than the cruise lines. going tubing and hitting the falls in 1 day may not be real doable though. Go to cruisecritic.com and go to the message board and look at the ports of call board.

Which cruise liner would you suggest as part of a honeymoon to Western Caribbean? Please no direct answers but state how they compare with each other. THANKS A LOT FOR THE INFO.

I loved the princess cruise. I did not care for Holland America the food was a lot like the college commons.

Royal Caribbean Cruises for kids/teens?

royal caribbean cruises for kids/teens?
I have been invited to take my family on a Royal Caribbean cruise (with work so I will be in meetings some of the time). Just wondering is this a good cruise for kids? I have a 9year old a 12 year old, a 15 year old and a 17 year old. What things are there to do for kids and what are the kids programs like? Also is the teen areas supervised? Thanks

Every ship has another style. So there are some ships with special offers for families with kids, some are specialized particularly for lonely singles, some for elderly people… You may better ask the cruise company before you choose the ship, if they are attractive for teenagers and kids.

Do you prefer Carnival or Royal Caribbean cruises?

or any other cruise ship ideas?

It’s not a matter of what we like, it’s a matter of which cruise and ship is the best match for you. All cruise lines are different, as are their ships.

It is correct that the shorter cruises are often very ‘party’ like, and if you’re older and quiet that might not be the best match for you no matter what cruise line is offering it.

Look to see what amenities the ship offers. Will you use them? What about the itinerary? Is it long on ocean days and if so, are you a ship person that would enjoy that. Or perhaps it’s port intensive arriving each morning at 7am and departure each night at 5pm – is that for you??

Check to see what the average age is for your cruise. Longer cruises, Alaska itineraries, etc., frequently command an older crowd. Summer cruises are full of families as are holidays.

I find a lot of carnival ships similar to kind of vegas atmosphere. I myself prefer Royal Caribbean. I think for the dollar, you can’t beat the value. I think Princess is overpriced for what you get. Celebrity is a little nicer and consistantly has more upscale food, if you’re a foodie.

Do more research. My happiest clients are those that find the cruise that best matches their interest, lifestyle and pocket book. Don’t judge on brand alone. .Good luck.
