I saw a princess cruise ship (I believe it was the Island Princess). I noticed that on each side of the smokestack, there were silver cylinders mounted horizontally that looked something like a jet engine. Does anyone have any idea what those are?
Here is a photo of the Diamond Princess and you can see the two horizontally mounted silver cylinders that look like jet engines …

The Princess ships that have these actually do have a jet engine used to help power the ship. The ship’s engines don’t actually turn the propellers, but rather create electricity that is used to power the electrical motor that actually does turn the propellers.
Here is some more information on the Diamond Princess’ engines …
The Diamond Princess differs from existing passenger ships, first of all, in the fact that when cruising it uses a diesel engine and when moving at high speed it employs a CODAG-configuration power system, which combines the diesel engine and a gas turbine. While providing strong output, the gas turbine, which utilizes airplane technology, produces little noise and little vibration. Though rooms right above the propeller would normally be quite noisy and subject to vibration, it would be possible to put luxury suites in this location on the Diamond Princess. At the same time, the positioning of the gas turbine behind the funnel gives the ship more inner space.

Here is some more information …
Diamond Princess has an instantly recognizable funnel due to two jet engine-like pods that sit high up on its structure but really are mainly for decoration.
…
Diamond Princess is the first of the “Grand Class” ships to have a “pod” propulsion system installed. Electrical power is provided by a combination of four diesel and one gas turbine (CODAG) unit; the diesel engines are located in the engine room, while the gas turbine unit is located in the ship’s funnel housing, on each side of which is a cosmetic pod that resembles a jet aircraft engine.

Hi Im getting married and want my 2 family members to go on the Princess cruise, but unfortunately its sold out. going to the panama canal, December 30, On the island princess, sailing from fort lauderdale to acapulco. is anyone selling there tickets?
If someone can not go on a cruise that they bought tickets for, they also can not sell them here or anywhere. But what you can do is put those family members that want to go on a waiting list. Just call princess cruises or ask your travel agent to do this asap. But, time is running out, so do this now.
I want to get my sister into the night club and I know they use your sailing pass as your "ID". How can I get her in?
it depends on how stringent the door person is. sometimes they just let anyone in, sometimes they’ll just take a peek, or maybe they scan the card I’m not sure.
anyways you can’t fake a Seapass, trust me I’ve tried.
Would Carnival or Royal Caribbean be a better cruise choice? It seems Royal Caribbean is more expensive. I’d like to find something cheap in the Caribbean for December 2010 after Christmas. Any ideas? Any great myrtle beach,sc places that are in the center of everything that would be a good recommendation, that is right on the beach?
First…there are no "good beaches" on the Atlantic coast in Jan. The water is COLD, and the temps can be as well.
Second…I suspect Carnival will be , on average, a little cheaper than RC. Don’t know what you consider cheap but the 3-4 day cruises to Nassau and The Bahamas are about as cheap as you can get. Go to cruisesonly.com and check out your options. There a good trustworthy site and easy to work with

Will be on Sea princess for 10 day Canada/New England cruise starting October 13. Am curious to know which ports we will have to be tendered in. I know Newport, RI is one and do not what the others are. Anyone out there know the answer to this? Thanks.
Your itinerary page should tell you this. The booklet i have on New England and Canada does not say which are tender ports. So if your itinerary says just Newport, RI, then I would assume that is it. Perhaps you can call princess on this if you don’t get an answer.
I have been looking all over the internet for a 2008 or 09 company report on princess cruise lines. I know Princess is owned by carnival. However, I need to find out how much Princess spent on advertising in 08 or possibly so far this year.
call the company directly.
I’m planning to take Royal caribbean cruise deparing from Venice 18th of August. Which website is the best ? What is the best time to purchase online?
Thanks

They always offer discounts on all sorts of cruise lines. Maybe you’ll find a good one for Royal Carribean.
I’m a 17-year-old girl, and I’m going on a Carnival cruise to Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama and the Caribbean next March for a week. What are the chances of meeting a guy, around the same age, who is reasonably attractive? I’m just curious.
I’m going with my family during the spring break.
every cruise is different. depends what time of year you go. If you go around school breaks theres alot more teens on the ships.
its about 50/50 boys to girls. if your going around spring break which is in march/april there will definitly be teens your age forsure.
youll meet ppl! definitly.
